Burlap & Barrel Zanzibar Black Peppercorns grow in bunches like grapes, on a climbing vine. Most peppercorns are harvested while still green, but Burlap & Barrel allow the peppercorns to ripen longer on the vine before being hand-picked and sun-dried, resulting in a rich chocolate-colored pepper berry with bright, fruity spiciness. Zanzibar black pepper is grown organically and Burlap & Barrel are the exclusive importers of Zanzibar black pepper to the US. We recommend using this on everything from pastas, salads, sauces, roasted vegetables, and grilled meats. Burlap & Barrel source their pepper from a cooperative of small artisan farmers on the Zanzibar islands off of the eastern coast of Tanzania.
